Independent Visitor Training
Training is provided over two sessions totalling approximately 12 hours. All independent visitor volunteers are asked to complete both sessions and an accreditation interview before being introduced to a young person. The training is designed to be informal and participative, with emphasis on group discussions and exercises. Guest speakers are invited to share with the group on both sessions.
On-going training is provided for established volunteers and training on more specific issues can be provided on request.
| Day 1: The Experience of Being in Care |
An introductory session to the care system with input from young people on their experiences of life in care |

| Day 2: How to be an independent visitor |
Identifying the skills and attributes that are required to be good independent visitors and a look at the policies and procedures with input from an experienced volunteer. This session also involves case study exercises on child protection issues |

| Accreditation |
A one-to-one session with the service managers to explore issues raised on the training and identify any possible further training requirements. |
